All my googling just seems to get me version 5 which I want to take off my PC.

I have just upgraded to version 5. Are you having problems with 5. I was on 4.8 and when I upgraded the 4.8 did not completely uninstall. Now comes up with a pop up on start up saying license key not entered.
There is no license key for 5 so must be a hangover from 4.8.
Interested to know if you have had problems with 5 though.

Yes trustworthy, 5 gave me probs straight away - first it wouldn't send via Gmail (something to do with SSL) and there was another worse problem - can't remember what it was but it stopped me running something I think - but I uninstalled it and ran Ccleaner to get shut completely.
Reinstalled 4.8 and that's fine.

Thanks for quick reply Alecto. I only installed last night and have had a couple of problems. Had to uninstall twice and the worked on third try. Still trying to stick with 5 and see if anything else gives me problems. About to run ccleaner to try and get rid of remnants of 4.8.

5 certainly looks more user friendly, but if any more problems, then back to 4.8 which has worked fine for me along with superantispyware.

Yes, sorry I cant remember what the prob was, but it must have been major to get me running back to 4.8

There are uninstall utilities here for both 4.8 and 5

I had real problems with 5 and gave up on it, thought I'd got it sorted then my keyboard wouldn't work now running avira

Alecto,theres a bit of info over at Kitz about upgrading to Avast 5.Not sure if its any use but 'Tufted Duck' over there seems clued up as regards Avast.

somebody said earlier in the thread I think that 5 doesn't need registering and it shouldn't really ask for it.

Yes it says 30 days,you need to register.

plenty of stuff there, there is a post about the same problem and the cure was to register on the website
