Dispatches go undercover at Post Office!

Postby fudgie » 09 Feb 2010, 00:13

Two reporters go undercover as agency postmen to find out if the Royal Mail has delivered on claims that it is modernizing and improving its service.

In 2004 and again in 2005, Dispatches went undercover to investigate the Royal Mail. These reports exposed serious systemic and individual failures within the organization, resulting in an inquiry by the postal regulator, followed by a fine of almost ten million pounds. Five years on, the Royal Mail claims it is modernizing and improving its service.

The reporters find an antiquated system with lax security, poorly trained agency workers - many of whom are clearly not up to the job - damaged and defective equipment and allegations of stealing.

if you send undercover people into any large organisation you'll find the same thing (shock! horror!).
the fact is that a large part of the population are useless tossers who will skive and steal from their granny, and any large organisation will have employed a lot of these because they need a lot of people.

there's no good news in reporting the good guys, who in any case are probably silenced by the bad guys and the management. Sadly, nobody likes a whistle blower.

I know someone who worked for the Royal Mail for almost 30 years. They told me that the service now is ruined by idiotic management who basically know F*** all about the job.

They hold the delivery men/woman back to sort mail longer thus making it later for them to get out and deliver the mail, that's why the majority of mail gets delivered a lot later than it used to do.

Recorded delivery slips are not always handed in after the delivery of the item, which then means that the sender is unable to check that the item has been delivered, which basically defeats the object in paying the extra for the Recorded Delivery service.

Fatboy, that's exactly what my postie who lives on my street tells me.

I asked why the mail is arriving at 4pm now instead of 10 am and she said that management are stopping them coming in early and going home early. instead they must start later, work till 5 o'clock and drag the round out till then. Management didn't like them going home earlier than the management, regardless of when they started.

Seems what's good for the customer doesn't matter.

And the recorded delivery is as you say a joke. They never ever make you sign for anything but Special now.

don't know if Postie can add anything.

Those kind mangers, are between a rock and hard place. If they care they get stressed and burn out, so they do what they have to.

As for the way those mailing rooms run, it's amazing we see any mail at all.

We have the same problem here, the posties don't get enough time to complete their run.

Similar here from my faithful Postie, he tells me that management now miss a day off of some delivery rounds to save costs, so no mail at all on some days, so much for First Class post.
