Who said it was wrong that people lost homes in recession times and when they get voted in they would pass laws to stop it, was it :

1) David Cameron
2) Gordon Brown as Chancellor

Your right !! it was Labour who promised the laws but when in power failed to deliver, I am not complaining just pointing out the facts.

Do we have riots in the streets ? hmmm We seem to have right wing groups trying to reclaim Britain, they gently unscrew signs and place them on others heads very gently, and when the police pass they do not snort before spitting....

Britain is not broken it's just on the verge of being a laughing stock of the world. When we are importing at the moment some countries are refusing to take sterling, and will most definitely quote costs based on sterling more than 24hours, but I suppose Labour die hards do not see the trouble companies are in to keep things moving, they just want wage rises.

I wonder about you at times, more people losing their homes now?yeh right! I suppose inflation is higher at moment now as well, are you on drugs?if not you should be!

In 1991 there were 75540 homes repossessed, and that wasn't even at the peak of repossessions
Labour have passed legislation to make repossessions far more difficult,if the lender adheres to the regs, problem is the ones in the sub-prime market aren't

The Bank of England has said that the current surge in inflation (3.5% compared to the Bank of England's target of 2%) is temporary, we will have to wait and see with all the Quantative Easing that has taken place - £200 billion pounds worth

Anybody remember those damn Normans who invaded us? About 1066 wasn't it?
We should get an apology. You can't trust a Norman government.

No as at that time I was only a youngster and didn't have a mortgage or have to earn a living !

Even if interest rates rose to 15%, I would be okay as I only have a few years on my mortgage but for people who have only recently got on the housing ladder, it would be a struggle :(

Anyway, wasn't part of the problem the 'winter of discontent' from the previous Labour government?

oh you mean from the time when labour were in power with a minority govt?when they couldn't get any real policies past because they had to rely on non-labour support so all the bills passed were watered down?thought you were!

I really must stop posting provocative stuff

So is everyone agreed that it's true and just arguing about whose fault it is?

Or do people think that today's young people are indeed better educated than we were in the olden days?

After all, 99.9% or some such figure pass every exam with A* whereas in my day lots of people failed.

Quite the reverse I would say, it is evident that however much any government throws at education, in general terms, standards continue to fall.

Personally I reckon that we could close half of all University places, and it wouldn't make a scrap of difference to the outcome of the country.

they don't pass with a* at that rate lol
I do think the chance of a better education exists but not many actually use that chance to the full, instead the kids end up taking subjects that are easier to pass but don't help them later in life:-we need far more taking the sciences to higher levels and more engineers coming through:-the uk needs to start making stuff again(just my thoughts!):-we rely on other countries too much for everything we need inc power(what a joke that is!)
