Sad that Bob Grant - who played Jack - ended his life after suffering from depression for many years. I find very little current comedy makes me laugh. I must be getting old, maybe the good writers have died/retired.The current crop of "comedians" just don't seem to be able to inject humour into any script, or individuality into a character, Take Fulton Mackay in "Porridge". Every inch the British Sarn't Major set adrift from a life of disciplined order, his whole persona was just "right", from the little twitches of his head (did you ever notice that?) down to the way he seemed to address Brian Wildes' Character as "Mr Barrack-laugh" I often wondered if that was an "intended" joke. I am so thankful for the classic comedy that is still shown on some channels.
Having worked on the Tube - with people of all faiths, it occurs to me that what we are seeing now is a pushing of the envelope by some who profess to follow certain faiths, certainly the "ordinary" members of various faiths that I have known would never have dreamed of such behavour, and I wonder why this guy wasn't dismissed, especially as he left the cab with the engine running whilst in service... that is without the "avoidable delay" caused which is usually viewed as serious as it can impact on crew changes later in the day if the lost time is not recovered. Its hard enough running a public transport service in London - without this sort of thing
I think PC has gone way too far if this sort of behaviour can be defended due to religious tolerance - what next? a Christian bus driver parking up outside a church on Sunday morning while the driver pops in for a quick pray? If the working hours are incompatible with your religious practices - CHANGE JOBS!!!!!
