New forum installed

Postby James » 07 Sep 2007, 16:14

As discussed in previous topics, we have taken the plunge and installed the new phpBB3 forum.

Things to note:

- Skin is not complete yet, so don't worry about the look and feel too much as it will be changed when I get time *almost done now*
- New spam-bot measures and registration validation checks have been implemented
- All data (members/posts/PM's) have been converted

If you notice anything odd or broken let us know.

A few inital comments:-

The new layout does not seem to make it easy to keep up with the latest posts & threads, please advise how to go about doing this.

Also the quick reply box has been removed, which i used alot - it was a much quicker and easier way to reply to messages...

Is this new forum going to be integrated into the home page of this site like the old one was, which i thought was a good idea?

Re: the Quick post and integration, I presume James will tweak stuff like this when he gets more time...at least we're back on-line and hopefully spam free.

Thank goodness for that :!:

It's a bit of an inconvenience but if it will cut down on the explicit SPAM, then it's worth it in my opinion.

Just to clarify, you can still post images but you need to host them elsewhere e.g. Tinypic.

Oops, I thought that all imaging had been disabled

I always used to use Tinypic anyway as I found that the sites own hosting resulted in images that were too small to read clearly.

One thing I find is that it's not as easy to distinguish between read and unread posts as it used to be on the old forum!

Never mind as I expect this will be sorted when James finishes the new forum skin :!:

I like it, the skin is a little to bright IMO, but the forum is nice and snappy too.
